One of three poems
On May 17, 2007, I wrote three poems in Spanish after a breakup.
They were never shared. Never published.
I’m revisiting them now, translating and revising them into English.
This is the first of the three.
That Name
My whole world contorts at the sight of his name written on my sky. Lost in a vastness of absence, I gather my remains, bones and pearls, and set out on the path traced by confusion. I must confess I am worn thin by tears, by so much waiting, by words that reach me empty, by half-given instants. By the aimless ritual of sitting on patient stones, waiting for signs… and kisses. I confess that I’ve been forsaken by the courage to let it all go, and step into freedom. That I am thirsty. That three weeks in this desert turned into three eternities. That even the air falters without his presence. And my chest gives in, under labyrinths of loneliness, shapeless awakenings, and that haunting name unworthy of my eyes, still scribbled on the blue of my sky.
The other two poems will be shared next week.
If you’d like to read more now, Wreckage also invites us to see our world after love is lost.
With love,
